Product Overview
Rare die-cut paper toy made by Raphael Tuck & Sons similar to those in Father Tuck's See-Saws series, though it's unknown if this particular piece was part of that series. Found in the estate collection of a prominent African American educator who was compiling items for a Black Memorabilia museum that remained unfulfilled at the time of her death. This die cut has the poem "Quite Likely" on the back and is labeled "The Jolly Little Niggers" on the back as well. It is signed and marked with the maker's name and mark, Raphael Tuck & Sons, Ltd. and mentions their status as publishers to the King & Queen.
This scarce die cut depicts five little black kids sitting on a see-saw made from a log and board in colorful dress. The diecut is not without damage and wear, but remains mostly intact and in overall pretty decent condition. The boy on the left has a split down his face, the child on the right has a separated split at the knee and is missing their foot. The toy colors are still bright and the card is embossed. It measures about 10 1/2 inches long.
