Absolutely awesome pair of antique Victorian gilt gesso picture frames with odd thick rounded glass and embossed gilded mattes with abalone shell adornments. Frames have photos of a man and woman as shown. The frame with the woman has a matte that has a horseshoe shape with inlaid abalone shell decorations, while the one on the man's photo is a complete oval. The glass is very thick and wavy and has rounded corners and is slightly convex. Estate found. Very nice condition. Found is as expected condition from a rural estate, with a good coating of dust. We gave the frames a light cleaning and the pictured condition is how they will be shipped. No damage to the glass or gesso. Minimal wear. These are very nice and while it's incredibly rare to find frames like this in comparable condition, this is the first set of frames we've ever encountered with this type of glass.
Frames measure about 10 3/4 X 12 3/4 inches, outside dimension. Frames have original backs intact. At some point a newer wire was applied as pictured. Refer to the photos and use the zoom for a better idea of the style and condition of these photos, you will receive the exact pair of frames that is pictured.
