This is a vintage handmade travel souvenir. Figure looks like a little baby wrapped in a blanket, made of a seashell with a wooden hand-painted head with earrings sticking out of the shell.
This figure was found in the estate of a prominent African American educator who was compiling Black Americana and Black Memorabilia items for a museum prior to her death. Novelty souvenirs such as this one were not always made in the region that they were sold, where this one was made is unknown.
