This is a vintage ceramic black African aborigine figure by Irene Nye depicting a character from the Jungle Imps comic strip. Signed and marked with number 207 on the bottom. She probably originally had earrings and other bead jewelry. The figure has spaghetti type hair and grass skirt.
This figure was found in the estate of a prominent African American educator who was compiling Black Americana and Black Memorabilia items for a museum prior to her death. Novelty souvenirs such as this one were not always made in the region that they were sold, where this one was made is unknown.
