Product Overview
This is a vintage handmade doll depicting a mammy that is made out of a bandana filled with beanbags in her belly and hand-painted features. She's wearing an apron and a lacy collar. The collar looks to have a dab of glue in the middle, possibly where something was attached at one point.
This figure was found in the estate of a prominent African American educator who was compiling Black Americana and Black Memorabilia items for a museum prior to her death. Novelty souvenirs such as this one were not always made in the region that they were sold, where this one was made is unknown.
