This is an authentic Civil War era J.C. Bidwell 1864 Pittsburgh cast brass equipment/plow badge or maker's emblem plate.
John C. Bidwell was the proprietor of the famous Pittsburgh Plow Works in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During the Civil War, his foundry expanded production to supply military field equipment and heavy gun carriages directly to the Union government. Cast in solid brass with two mounting screw holes, this round emblem features bold raised lettering reading "J.C. BIDWELL / PITTSBURGH" surrounding the prominent date "1864". It is in excellent original condition with a dark, aged brass patina.
