Product Overview
This is an authentic antique "Pennsylvania Railroad System Book of Rules", issued by the Operating Department for conducting transportation. This pocket-sized hardcover manual features a textured dark brown cloth cover with gilded lettering on the front. The title page indicates the book was approved by the Boards of Directors and made effective April 26, 1925, carrying the unique serial registration No. 49581.
The manual applies to the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, West Jersey and Seashore Railroad Company, Waynesburg and Washington Railroad Company, and several regional lines. The interior contains detailed operational rules, a section on duties for positions such as track foremen and crossing watchmen, mechanical air brake schematics (including Westinghouse/W.A.B.Co. components), and multiple full-color illustrated plates detailing "Standard Signal Aspects" (such as Clear-Block-Signals). Condition is complete and well-preserved with sharp color plates, a tight binding, minor shelf wear to the cover corners and loose binding from use. The fold out diagrams appear to have some wear as pictured.
