This is an antique scrimshawed bone bar pin / brooch featuring a detailed engraved coastal scene.
The slender, angled bar plaque is carved from natural bone (showing fine natural grain lines) and detailed with incised scrimshaw artwork. The scene depicts a lighthouse emitting light beams, a rolling shoreline with ocean waves, and seagulls flying overhead, all highlighted with dark pigment inlay. The plaque is secured with two brass rivets to a full-length brass backer plate with a working pin back assembly. The piece exhibits a warm, mellowed ivory-colored patina and remains in good antique condition.
