This is an original 19th-century identified sixth-plate cased daguerreotype portrait photograph (c. 1850s). The image presents a striking tinted studio portrait of a handsome 21-year-old gentleman, pose-seated with folded hands, styled in a frock coat, high stock collar, bow tie, and a bold floral patterned vest.
The silvered copper plate is set under glass in an oval brass mat within a red velvet-lined wood and leatherette case. The embossed case features a central floral bouquet surrounded by acanthus scrollwork borders and retains its original brass hook closure. Significantly, the back of the case bears an antique paper label with handwritten period ink identification, which is illegible to us....see pics to see if you can make out his name. Condition is very good antique, with remarkable plate clarity and detail, minimal solarization, and a strong intact case showing moderate surface wear as pictured and missing the brass hook closure.
