Civil War era 1860s cased tintype photograph capturing a family portrait. Features a seated father with a period chin beard, a mother in a dark dress with a crisp white collar, an older child, and a seated baby wearing a delicate hand-tinted pink dress with striped stockings, all posed before an elaborate painted scenic studio backdrop. Housed under glass with an ornate foliate brass mat and preserver inside an embossed floral case with a plush ruby red embossed velvet pad and dual brass hook clasps. The plate displays excellent contrast and sharp focal clarity with minor specks under glass, while the case retains crisp embossing with light rubbing along high points and reinforcement along the exterior spine hinge. The spine of the case has been retaped as pictured.
