Nice looking vintage postcard with Black Americana theme. Pictured and shipped in stiff top loader. Condition is as pictured.
This is an authentic vintage linen-era comic postcard featuring an illustrative "pickaninny" caricature theme, manufactured in the mid-20th century. The illustration depicts two stylized African American figures in a nighttime aquatic setting. The first figure, a woman wearing a red bikini and a yellow patterned headscarf, is shown stepping from a wooden dock into a large red canoe. The second figure, a man in a red and white shirt with a bowtie and straw hat, is seated in the canoe, holding a paddle with a stunned expression. The background features a large, grinning yellow crescent moon against a dark blue sky, winking at the couple.
The upper text features a standard saucy "fresh" comic caption, utilizing phonetic dialect: "I'M PREPARED IN CASE YOU GIT FRESH.....AND I HAVE'TA GIT OUT AND WALK!". This card is a variant of Tichnor Serial #200. This is an unposted (unused) example of New Old Stock (NOS). The reverse side identifies this as a "TICHNOR QUALITY VIEWS" and "A 'COLOURPICTURE' PUBLICATION", manufactured by Tichnor Bros., Inc. Boston, Mass. The reverse also bears production number 66260 and the standard stamp box. The condition is excellent, complete and uncirculated, with bright colors and standard linen paper texture.
