Original antique English flow blue historical transferware "Martha Washington / Chain of States" advertising plate (c. 1890s-1910s, produced in Staffordshire, England by Wood & Sons). Features a deep cobalt blue flow transfer border of 15 interlocking chain links bearing the names of the early American states, encircling a radiating sunburst center medallion with the Latin motto "Decus Et Tutamen Ab Illo" and the Washington cipher. The reverse is marked with the underglaze blue stamp: "ENGLAND / Compliments Shawmut Furniture Co. Boston, Mass." Measures approximately 8 3/4 inches in diameter. Condition is good antique: displays deep vibrant cobalt contrast and clear graphics; the reverse has a shallow edge flake/chip along the outer rim and typical minor factory stilt/glaze pin marks, with no hairline cracks across the body.
