Product Overview
This is an original 19th-century ninth-plate (1/9 plate) ambrotype photograph of a young man (c. 1850s-1860s). Housed in a traditional embossed leatherette wooden case with a brass hook clasp, the glass plate image features a waist-up portrait of a handsome, well-dressed young man with slicked dark hair, wearing a frock coat, vest, high-collared shirt, and a wide polka-dot cravat bow tie.
The ambrotype is framed under protective glass with an ornate scalloped and frosted brass preserver mat inside the case, opposite a plush, deep red embossed velvet pad. Condition is very good antique; the image remains sharp and crisp with strong contrast, while the exterior case spine and covers remain intact with light edge wear as pictured.
