This is an original antique Victorian seed company advertising trade card (c. 1880s-1890s) promoting Jerome B. Rice & Co. Seeds / "Musk Melon - Rice's (New) Surprise".
The front features a color stone chromolithograph depicting a kitchen interior with four Black figures marveling over a giant sliced muskmelon (cantaloupe). The ornate typography at the top reads "MUSK MELON" with the variety title "RICE'S (NEW) SURPRISE" along the bottom edge. The reverse side features the company's promotional text: "TRY [R]ICE'S SE[EDS]... REMEMBER! FROM Good Seeds Only CAN [GOOD VEGETABLES] BE OBTAINED."
Condition is fair-to-good antique; the front chromolithograph image is intact, vibrant, and clean with minor edge toning, while the reverse side has significant surface paper loss and thinning from historic scrap album removal, affecting portions of the printed text.
