Product Overview

This is an original antique Victorian chromolithograph greeting trade card (c. 1880s-1890s). It is unsigned; the maker is unknown. Back is blank and unused for advertising.

The front features a detailed color stone-lithograph depicting an African American nursemaid / mammy figure ("Aunt Chloe") standing behind a white picket fence, holding a crying child. A sheet pinned to the fence below displays a period dialect holiday verse: "Hi, dare, massa! wish you merry, Wish you lots ob Christmas cheer. Mistletoe am pretty, berry, Lots ob girls am allus near. Don't catch me, though-'cos for why? Old Aunt Chloe much too sly." It is marked "Copyright" in the lower-left corner, and the reverse side is blank stock.

Condition is very good antique with rich, vivid stone-litho colors, crisp typography, clean edges, and a blank back showing only minor light surface scuffing at the top corners from historic scrap album removal.
