This is an original antique Victorian chromolithograph greeting trade card (c. 1880s-1890s). It is unsigned; the maker is unknown. Back is blank and unused for advertising.
The front features a color stone-lithograph depicting a Black hotel waiter named Pete in a red cap leaning out of an open brick building window. He holds an apron / towel printed with a period dialect New Year greeting verse: "Pete, head-waiter at de inn, Berry civil nigger, Pete, Pete hab mighty winning grin, Pete's discourse am mild and sweet. Pete him bow him 'tremely low, Pete him say exac'ly so 'Massa, wish you happy year-Pete him drink a glass ob beer.'" It is marked "Copyright" in the lower-left area, and the reverse side is blank card stock.
