Nice looking vintage postcard with Black Americana theme. Pictured and shipped in stiff top loader. Condition is as pictured.
This is an original vintage linen-era comic postcard featuring highly problematic and racist "Mammie/pickaninny" caricatures typical of its era. The illustration depicts an exaggerated woman figure washing clothes in a tub in the foreground, with three small child-caricature faces peeking from behind her. The background shows a washing line with hanging clothes that spell out the message: "WE'RE THINKING OF YOU". The caption at the top reads: "JUST A LINE TO SAY --". The bottom margin features the specific localized overprint: "Greetings from HUNTINGTON, W. VA.". The condition is excellent, unposted, with only minor yellowing on the back consistent with age and storage.
The reverse of the postcard is an unposted (unused) condition, making it highly desirable to collectors. It features a valid, uncancelled 1-cent green George Washington stamp, a standard divided back with blue print, and standard "POST CARD" text. The left margin identifies it as "No. 929.
