Nice looking vintage postcard with Black Americana theme. Pictured and shipped in stiff top loader. Condition is as pictured.
This is an original vintage linen-era comic postcard from the WWII era (c. 1940s), published by Asheville Post Card Co. of Asheville, N.C. The illustration features a highly stylized, offensive "pickaninny" caricature of an African American boy. He is shown running, holding a small toy airplane, with his blue shorts pulled down, exposing his buttocks. The scene uses color and crude wordplay to link racial stereotyping with the theme of wartime defense.
The caption text in the lower right uses phonetic dialect: "AIR RAID / AND / BLACK OUT". The illustration is artist-signed, likely Heidi (middle right).
The card is unposted (unused), which maximizes its collectible value. The reverse side (Image 2) is a standard divided back with a vertical publisher line identifying it as "Published by Asheville Post Card Co., Asheville, N. C.", a blank stamp box, and standard "POST CARD" text. The condition is excellent, showing standard linen paper texture, with only minor yellowing/foxing on the back consistent with long-term storage of uncirculated cards.
