Product Overview
This is an original 19th-century ninth-plate tintype portrait photograph (c. 1860s) presented in a partial miniature case. The ferrotype plate captures a sweet seated studio portrait of a mother holding her young baby on her lap. The mother is styled with slicked center-parted hair, a delicate necklace, and a checked/plaid day dress with a white collar, while the infant wears a long white christening gown or baby dress.
The image is protected under glass within an ornate, gold-tone scrollwork brass mat and preserver assembly, set into a pink-velvet-lined tray bottom of a black leatherette case measuring 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 inches wide. The reverse of the half-case features a raised textured leatherette border with a central pebbled panel. Condition is very good vintage with sharp clarity, strong contrast, and minimal plate oxidation, while the case retains its original brass hook catch and lacks its lid half.
