Product Overview
This is an original 19th-century ninth-plate tintype portrait photograph (c. 1860s) presented in a partial miniature case. The ferrotype plate displays a striking portrait of a stern-faced woman styled with a slicked center-parted hairstyle, drop earrings, and a patterned day dress featuring a delicate lace scalloped collar and brooch.
The image is set under protective glass within a bright gold-tone, floral-embossed brass mat and preserver assembly, housed inside the tray bottom half of a black leatherette case measuring 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 inches wide. The edge of the case tray is trimmed with a painted or gilt scrollwork border, and the reverse features an octagonal pebbled leatherette design. Condition is very good vintage with excellent contrast, rich tonal clarity, and minimal plate solarization, while the half-case retains its side catch hardware.
