This is an original 19th-century ninth-plate tintype portrait photograph (c. 1860s) presented in a partial miniature case. The cased image captures a clear, seated studio portrait of a young boy or teenager styled with side-parted hair, a dark jacket, and a small bow collar.
The ferrotype plate is set under protective glass within a deeply ornate, floral-embossed gilt brass mat and preserver assembly, housed inside the bottom tray half of an embossed black leatherette case measuring 2 1/2 inches tall by 2 inches wide. The back of the half-case features a raised scrollwork and cartouche relief pattern. Condition is good vintage with strong image clarity and minimal surface flaking to the plate, while the case retains its original brass eye hardware but lacks its front cover half as noted.
