Original circa 1910s-1920s Real Photo Postcard (RPPC) studio portrait of a smiling African American infant, identified on the lower white margin in period ink: "Berneice M. Makel. 8 mo. 1 wk." The baby is dressed in a white gown and soft booties, seated in an Arts and Crafts / Mission-style wooden armchair while holding a small toy animal. Produced by the prominent Black community photographer Sissman Studio, with their credit line printed along the left edge: "Sissman Studio, 1828 Center Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa." Reverse is unmailed with a divided back and stylized Art Nouveau floral stamp box. Very good antique condition with sharp focus, warm sepia tones, and clean edges, showing minor age toning and moisture staining on the reverse that does not bleed through to the portrait. An exceptional, fully identified piece of early 20th-century Pittsburgh Black Americana and vernacular child portraiture.
