Nice looking vintage postcard with Black Americana theme. Pictured and shipped in stiff top loader. Condition is as pictured.
This is an authentic vintage linen-era comic postcard featuring an illustrative "pickaninny" caricature theme, explicitly dated to 1942 by its production code. The illustration uses problematic and offensive visual language, common to mid-20th century American ephemera, depicting a stylized African American child figure wearing a large wooden barrel with the stencil "THIS END UP" on the rear. The figure is shown against a colorful gradient sunset sky and green hill background.
The text features a "missing you" comic caption split across the scene, with the main message at the top in large block letters: "I'LL BE BARRELING IT HOME SOON -" and the closing sentiment at the bottom: "SURE DO MISS YOU". The card was manufactured by Curt Teich & Co., Inc. and bears the serial number C-813 on the upper right and production number 2CH410 on the lower right.
This is an unposted (unused) example of New Old Stock (NOS). The reverse side is a standard divided back with standard "POST CARD" text printed in blue ink, manufactured by Genuine Curteich-Chicago "C. T. Art-Colortone". It includes standard publisher lines and a blank address side. The original retailer S.S. KRESGE CO. paper price tag, marked ".01", remains attached to the stamp box area. The condition is excellent, complete and uncirculated, with minor foxing on the back consistent with standard long-term storage of uncirculated cards. A protective sleeve is included.
