Product Overview
Nice looking vintage postcard with Black Americana theme. Pictured and shipped in stiff top loader. Condition is as pictured.
This is an original vintage linen-era comic postcard from approximately 1946, featuring a racist "Mammie/pickaninny" caricature theme. The illustration uses problematic and offensive visual language to draw a parallel between the two subjects: a donkey standing on a dirt road, and a Black woman in a yellow shirt, headscarf, and striped stockings crouched in a field.
The text is a blunt comic phrase, split across the scene: "TWO / OF A / KIND." The donkey has an "X" on its hindquarters, while the woman's rear shows a patch, reinforcing the visual pun.
This is an unposted (unused) example of New Old Stock (NOS). The reverse side (Image 2) is a standard divided back with "POST CARD" printed in blue ink, a blank address side, and a standard "PLACE STAMP HERE" box. It features standard "GENUINE CURTEICH-CHICAGO 'C. T. ART-COLORTONE' POST CARD (REG. U.S. PAT. OFF.)" text along the vertical divider. The card bears production numbers C-733 (top right) and 6B-H1153 (bottom right). The condition is excellent, complete and uncirculated, with minor foxing consistent with standard long-term storage of uncirculated cards.
